I recently did a survey asking women - who like walking - which walks were on their bucket list. I've listed the top twenty five in terms of votes received, plus a few of my own suggestions.

Time to tick a few more off my list! Which do you want to do? Got other suggestions? Tell me in the comments. Let's get women from around the world tackling walks that are dotted around the world.

  1. Coast to Coast - UK.
  2. Camino de Santiago - Spain
  3. West Highland Way - Scotland
  4. South West Coastal Path - England
  5. Mount Snowden - Wales
  6. Ben Nevis – Scotland
  7. Kilimanjaro – Tanzania
  8. Pennine Way – England
  9. Hadrian’s Wall – England
  10. Appalachian Trail – USA
  11. Pacific Crest Trail – USA
  12. Grand Canyon – USA
  13. Great Wall of China – China
  14. Great Glen Way – Scotland
  15. Inca Trail – Peru
  16. Scafell Pike – England
  17. Tatra Mountains – Poland
  18. Milford Track - New Zealand
  19. South Downs Way - England
  20. Everest Base Camp - Nepal
  21. Yorkshire Three Peaks - England
  22. Mount Ka'ala - Hawaii, USA
  23. Landmannalaugar route - Iceland
  24. Trolltunga - Norway
  25. Kepler Track - New Zealand

So what's on your list? And having a list is great, but you really need to take action if you want to ever tick things off that list.

How to turn a bucket list into reality
  1. Choose what you want to do first. Just pick one. Start small or go big. What makes you excited? Start there.
  2. Research it. Buy a book on the subject. Or use the web. Figure out how long it takes, how fit you need to be, how much it's likely to cost you. Don't let a lack of time, fitness or money stop you. Where there is a will, there's a way.  Stop scrolling through instagram or Facebook and use the time to research.
  3. Decide if you are going to do this alone, with a friend or with an organised group. Don't let a fear of doing it alone or not having someone to do it with be the thing that stops you.
  4. Pick a date six months to a year from now (or sooner if the time allows) and just put it in the calendar.
  5. Tell someone publicly that you're going to do it. This makes it more likely that you'll do it
  6. Start to piece together the things you will need. Make a list. Don't get overwhelmed. Break it into bite sized chunks using headings like money needed, training needed, kit needed, childcare needed, visas needed etc.
  7. Start ticking the items off the list. Much the same way you complete a walk, just put one foot in front of the other and get through the list. Trust me, there is almost always a solution to the problem you're facing. Tackle one item at a time to avoid overwhelm.
  8. Before you know it, you will have done it and you will feel so ecstatic that you did. You will remember who you were before life got in the way. And you'll be ready for your next adventure.

Now crack on!
