How do I join?
Click the button below and you'll be taken to the the Glamoraks Community.
What do I do once I'm in the community?
Set up your profile then introduce yourself by answering the ice breaker question. Have a browse. Find members, walks or groups near you. Join in conversations. Ask questions. Ask to join other people's walks or set up a walk of your own. Read other people's articles to get inspiration. Simply join in. The more you engage, the more you get out of it and the more everyone else does too.
Can I join if I am a man?
Glamoraks is a women-only group. We're not being sexist, we simply want our members to feel safe when they're arranging meet ups. Rightly or wrongly, most women don't feel comfortable arranging to meet a man they've never met in a remote countryside setting. Whereas they do feel safe meeting other women. Plus there is a different dynamic in a women-only group - one that is collaborative rather than competitive. The conversations are different too. We think having that space to have those conversations is important.
Speaking of security, is it safe?
Like any internet-based group, you can never be 100% certain that the person you're talking to is who they say they are. But our community lets you chat to members first. You can swap telephone numbers and chat in advance if that would make you more comfortable. And often, our walks are with several people so you're not in a one-on-one situation. We advise using common sense the same way you would if doing internet dating - chat first, tell people where you are going, arrange to meet in a less remote spot the first time.
Surely you can do all of this with existing walking groups or simply Facebook groups?
Yes you can, to an extent. But Facebook is a very noisy place. It's easy to miss stuff and hard to find people near you. And not everyone is on Facebook. In fact many Glamoraks aren't. And yes, of course there are other walking groups which you can join - many of our members belong to those too. But Glamoraks is a bit different. It mixes meeting people with information and first hand experiences that can be shared. It gives members the freedom to create or join in with walks or adventures that suit them, their pace, their ability, their interests. The act of setting up a walk itself is empowering, rather than doing what someone else tells you to do.
What if there is no-one near me?
This is a new but growing community. If there isn't someone near where you live now, please help us spread the word. In the interim, you can still benefit from sharing your walking experiences from your local area while getting inspired by other walks around the world. Make virtual friends, ask questions and feel part of a global movement.
